Utter Stupidity vs. Generation Piratesauthor: www-data [via metrofrance, via heise] 20% of the overall french population are infringing copyright. Among those who use the internet regularly, the fraction is even 37%, and of the people who surf the net on a daily basis, 45% said to have already illegally downloaded content. That makes quarter to half of the population (of France, but I'll take a wild guess and say that goes for pretty much every country of the world) are criminals. Just stop a moment and let it melt on your tongue: half the world is doing something that, due to recent copyright legislation, can get them in prison for several years. This is so awfully wrong. It passed the point where it was greedy, rude, impolite, and ignorant of one's customers long ago. At this point, the media indutry and the politics around it should have already realized that what they're doing is just it's plain, utterly and completely wrong. Continuing on this track is not a matter of "differring interests" or "evil but lucrative business tactics" anymore. Holding on to the current agenda and defending a business model that relies on incriminating half the world is proof of pure, acute and irremediable stupidity, with a cherry top! If you ask me, the only possible reason why executives of the media industry were blessed with a head is not to get their throats soaked when it rains....
