Regarding the humongous dimensions of the NSA wiretap I was just thinking... what if they deliberately wanted to have some kind of indicator of the public opinion about the government, terrorism etc... a little like the "random sweeps" in "V for Vendetta".

But then again... if they wanted to find out that some are pretty pissed about the political development lately, while most simply don't care (which is pretty much what I suppose they would've found out), why don't they... like... ask? :-) Or read the internet? It's there for everyone. And it's not quite like people made a big dark secret out of what they think... yet.
